Frequently Asked Cat’s Claw Questions

1. What is Cat’s Claw powder?

Cat’s Claw is a tall vine that grows in the Amazon rainforest and other warm places in South and Central America. It gets its name from the curved thorns that look like a cat’s claw. There are two main types: Uncaria tomentosa and Uncaria guianensis.  We carry the more effective one, Uncaria Tomentosa.

People in South America have used the vine’s bark and root for a long time to help with swelling, infections, and even serious illnesses like cancer.

2. What are the health benefits of Cat’s Claw powder?

  • Osteo-Arthritis/Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • White blood cell count/Chemoprotective

3. How do I use Cat’s Claw powder?

You can mix Cat’s Claw powder into water, tea, or even a smoothie for an easy boost. If you prefer, you can make it into a tea by simmering the powder in hot water. Since it has a pretty bitter earthy taste, you might want to add a little honey or lemon to make it more enjoyable.

4. Who should not take Cat’s Claw?

Cat’s Claw should not be used if you’ve had or are planning an organ or bone marrow transplant. Avoid it if you’re taking antacids, have Parkinson’s disease, or are trying to become pregnant.  Leukemia patients should not take Cat’s Claw as it may worsen the condition.

5. Can I take Cat’s Claw powder while on medication?

If you’re taking antacids, it’s best to avoid using Cat’s Claw powder at the same time. Antacids might make it harder for your body to absorb the benefits of Cat’s Claw.

It’s usually recommended to take 1 to 2 teaspoons of Cat’s Claw powder each day.
